Stanpit Marsh is an SSSI Nature Reserve run by Christchurch Council, and overlooks Mudeford Bay / Christchurch Harbour where the local two large rivers the Stour and Avon converge into the Sea. The marshes attract a range of birds and is a much visited location, offering a good walk around the North Side of the harbour with views to the Bay and back along the river to Christchurch Priory.
As such it offers good opportunities for the photographer to shoot wildlife shots of birds and landscapes to are an option, though bird photography would be the main reason to visit photographically. As there is some grazing on the site, then shots of the ponies is also an option.
Limited parking is available free at the reserve, (a short walk across the grass to the reserve), but this is also popular with local dog walkers, so as an alternative you can park at the Two Riversmeet Leisure centre at the opposite end and walk down the path to the reserve. There is a charge here though.
Alternatively see our Mudeford Bay listing for information on seeing the Bay from other alternative locations around Christchurch Harbour.
