On Sunday 26th of January, I took a hopeful visit to Hampshire WWT Blashford Lakes Nature Reserve near Ringwood. I say hopeful as the weather in the morning was truly appalling. However the weather did improve in the later afternoon, and had a great time wondering round the reserve.
Needless to say, I had my camera with me, with a 300mm F4 lens and 1.4 Converter attached to it. I used this set up to shoot the still images and the video you see in this article.
I was pleased to get really close to the cheerfully singing Dunnock as I walked around the reserve, I will admit the video of it is a bit wobbly as was shooting handheld.
A visit to the Woodland hide, proved the best photographic opportunity of the day, with some great sights outside of the window. There were 4 Redpolls on show, this being my best shot of them.
As well as this there were lots of Blue Tits and Siskins
And a very fast moving Coal Tit, which I managed to get in a good pose by the feeder.
I was surprised to see a Reed Bunting visiting the feeders, but one of the Staff at the Reserve, who also helped identify it for me, said it was not unknown for them to occasionally come in and scrounge.
Finally a video of the birds.
